Best AI tools for skylight installers (2026)
Updated Oct 17, 2026 · Prices as of Oct 2026 · Some links may be affiliate links (disclosure)
Skylight work lives on the roof and depends on the weather. You quote from photos, wait for parts and a dry day, then do a job where the flashing decides whether you get a thank-you or a leak call in March. The tools below keep the quote, the weather schedule and the callbacks under control.
Tax credit update: ENERGY STAR skylights no longer qualify for the federal 25C credit (it ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025), and the 25D credit some solar-powered skylights were sold under ended after 2025 too. If your marketing still mentions either, take it down. Prices below were checked in October 2026.

Quoting from photos
Ask for a wide photo of the roof plane (from the street is fine), the room below, the ceiling where the skylight would go and any attic access. Then price what changes the job:
- Type: fixed, venting (manual or solar-powered), or tubular. Tubular units are often a half-day job and a great entry product.
- Mount: curb-mount vs. deck-mount, and whether the existing curb can be reused.
- Roof: pitch, material (asphalt, metal, tile) and age. Tile and old roofs add time and risk.
- Interior: a new light shaft, drywall, trim and paint, by you or by others.
- Extras: blinds, rain sensors and removal of the old unit.
Give a range from the photos, confirm on a site visit for new openings, and send the final quote with tiers.
Work with roofers
A re-roof is the best time to replace a skylight. Build relationships with two or three roofers: offer to quote their customers within 24 hours and to work on their schedule. ChatGPT can draft the intro email. Track referral sources in your field app, so you know which roofer partners actually send work.
Weather and flashing
- Check the forecast two days out and text the customer about any reschedule early, not the morning of.
- Photograph each layer: deck, underlayment, flashing kit and finished roof. CompanyCam or your field app's photo feature timestamps them.
- Use the manufacturer's flashing kit and install instructions. Warranties often depend on it.
A dry Tuesday with two installs
7:30: first job, a tubular skylight in a windowless hallway bathroom. The attic photos from the quote showed clear space between the rafters, so you know the route. Cut in, flash, run the tube, set the diffuser. Photos of the flashing before the shingles go back. Done by 11.
12:30: second job, replacing a leaking 1990s curb-mount unit over a kitchen. The curb is sound, so you reuse it, as the quote allowed. If it had been rotted, that was a priced line item, so there's no awkward conversation. Old unit out, new underlayment and the manufacturer's flashing kit, new unit in. Every layer is photographed.
4:00: water test with a hose, an inside check and cleanup. The invoice goes from your phone. The review request goes out a week later with a before-and-after daylight photo, after the first rain has shown it doesn't leak.
The forecast showed rain Wednesday, so Monday's text had already moved Thursday's install to Friday. Nobody was surprised.
Copy-paste texts
- Photo request: "Thanks! Send a photo of the roof from the street, one of the room, and one of the ceiling spot. If you have attic access, a photo up there helps too."
- Weather: "Rain's in the forecast Thursday, so I'd like to move your install to Monday. Does that work? The skylight is here and ready."
- Leak or condensation: "Drips on cold mornings are often condensation, not a leak. Is it happening after rain or on cold, dry days? A photo helps me tell."
The monthly bill
- Solo installer: Jobber Core ($29/mo annually) and Quo Starter ($15/mo annually). About $44 a month.
- Crew: add CompanyCam Core ($63/mo annually) and NiceJob ($75/mo). About $182 a month.
Photo records pay for themselves the first time a customer blames a leak on your flashing and the photos show it was the chimney three feet away.
What can trip you up
Weather drives the schedule more than software can. Losing the federal credits removed an easy sales argument. Lead with daylight, ventilation and comfort. AI can draft explanations but can't diagnose a leak. Look before you answer.

FAQ
Are skylights still eligible for a federal tax credit?
Not for installs now. ENERGY STAR skylights used to count toward the 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, and some solar-powered skylights were marketed under the 25D residential clean energy credit. Both credits ended at the end of 2025 (25C for property placed in service after December 31, 2025, and 25D for expenditures after that date).
Should I replace the skylight when the roof is replaced?
Usually, if the skylight is more than 15 to 20 years old or the flashing is not reusable. Coordinating with the roofer saves a second tear-up and gives the customer one warranty conversation. Many skylight installers get most of their work from roofer referrals for this reason.
How do I handle a leak callback?
Get photos and the date of the last heavy rain, check whether it is condensation or a true leak (condensation is common in winter in humid rooms), and schedule a dry-day inspection. Log every callback on the original job in your field app, so you can see whether one crew, one product or one roof type keeps coming back.
How long does a skylight install take?
A tubular skylight is often a half-day job. Replacing a skylight in an existing opening can be a day. New openings with a framed shaft, drywall and paint take longer and often involve other trades.
Can I quote a skylight from photos?
For replacements and tubular units, a range from photos of the roof, the room and the attic is usually enough. New openings need a site visit to check framing, the roof and the interior shaft.
