Best AI tools for siding contractors (2026)
Updated Oct 17, 2026 · Prices as of Oct 2026 · Some links may be affiliate links (disclosure)
Siding is a measurement-heavy, picture-heavy sale. You have to know the wall area minus windows and doors, every corner and J-channel run, the soffit and fascia. And the homeowner has to picture a gray house turning navy with white trim. Get both of those done fast and accurately, and you're ahead of most competitors, who are still up a ladder with a tape.
Prices below were checked on vendor sites in October 2026.
The setup
| Need | Tool | Price (Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Exterior measurements and 3D model from phone photos | Hover | Starter pay-as-you-go (first 3 projects free); Pro $999/yr; Business $2,999/yr |
| Proposals, deposits, scheduling, invoices | Jobber or Housecall Pro | Jobber Core $29/mo annually; Housecall Pro Basic $59/mo annually |
| Damage and progress photos | CompanyCam | Core $63/mo annually; Crew $119/mo annually for 3 users |
| Proposal wording, HOA letters, follow-ups | ChatGPT | Free; Plus $20/mo |
| Business line and texting | Quo | Starter $15/user/mo annually ($19 monthly) |
Measuring without the ladder (mostly)
Hover's approach fits siding unusually well: walk around the house taking 8 to 12 photos on your phone, and you get back a 3D model with wall areas, openings, corners, trim lengths and roof facets. You can share the model with the homeowner and use it to show colors. Aerial roof reports don't measure walls well, which is why siding contractors lean on photo-based tools instead.
Do the math on the plans: if you run more than about 20 to 25 measured projects a year, compare Starter's per-project prices with Pro's annual fee and its lower per-scan prices. Pay-as-you-go is the right start for most small shops.
Double-check on site anyway. Photos can't see rotted sheathing or how many layers are under the old vinyl, and those are the things that blow up a budget.
The visual sale
- Show two or three color combinations on the homeowner's own house, not a stock photo.
- Bring physical samples. Screens lie about color, especially with dark blues and grays.
- Build options by profile and material: standard vinyl, insulated vinyl, fiber cement, engineered wood. Explain the trade-offs in plain language.
ChatGPT is good for that last part: "Explain the differences between vinyl, insulated vinyl, fiber cement and engineered wood siding for a homeowner in [climate]. Cover upkeep, how it handles hail and moisture, paint versus factory finish, and rough lifespan. No brand claims, under 250 words." Then attach your prices and the real manufacturer warranties.
Storm work and insurance claims
After hail or wind, siding turns into paperwork. What helps:
- Photos with time stamps. Every damaged wall, close-up and wide, before anything's touched. CompanyCam organizes these by job and makes reports you can send to the adjuster.
- Matching issues. When the old profile is discontinued, document it. AI can help you write a clear letter explaining why a partial repair won't match; the decision is the insurer's.
- Plain-English updates. Homeowners in a claim get anxious. "Write a short text explaining that we've sent photos and measurements to the adjuster and what happens next. Under 60 words."
Be careful here: rules about contractors negotiating claims for homeowners vary by state. Stick to documenting damage and estimating your work unless you know what your state allows.
Canned replies
- Before the visit: "We'll be there Tuesday at 2 to take photos around the house for measurements. You don't need to be home, but if you are, we can talk colors."
- Design sent: "Here's your house with two color combinations. Screens aren't perfect with color, so we'll bring real samples to compare in daylight."
- Order placed: "Your siding and trim are ordered. Lead time is about [X] weeks. We'll confirm your start date when it ships."
- Start reminder: "We start Monday. Please move patio furniture and grills a few feet from the house, and take down anything hanging on exterior walls."
- Hidden damage: "We found soft sheathing under the old siding by the back door (photos attached). Replacing it adds $X. Reply YES to approve so we can keep going."
The number that confuses homeowners: squares
Siding is sold by the "square," 100 sq ft of wall coverage. A typical two-story house might need 20 to 30 squares after openings, plus trim, soffit and fascia. Homeowners comparing quotes rarely know that, and one bid might include soffit and wrap while another doesn't. Break your quote into wall siding by square, trim and corners by linear foot, soffit and fascia, house wrap, and disposal. When a lower bid shows up, you can show the customer exactly what's missing from it.
Adding up the bill
| Business | Setup | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Small retail siding crew, about 2 projects a month | Hover Starter (per project) + Jobber Core + Quo + ChatGPT free | About $44–$48 plus per-project Hover fees |
| Busier shop, 3–5 projects a month | Hover Pro ($999/yr) + Housecall Pro Basic + CompanyCam Core + Quo | About $220–$224, plus Hover's discounted scan fees |
| Storm-focused, several reps | Hover Business + CompanyCam Crew + a roofing/siding CRM (quoted) | Roughly $370+ before the CRM |
Caveats from the field
- Photo-based measurements need good photos. Rushed, dark or blocked shots mean a bad model.
- Visualizers can oversell. Set expectations that the final color looks different in sunlight.
- Field apps don't do insurance supplements. If claims are your main business, you'll need a dedicated platform.
- Watch sales follow-up. Most siding quotes are compared against two others; the follow-up decides it.

FAQ
How do siding contractors measure a house quickly?
Many use Hover, which builds a measured 3D model of the whole exterior from phone photos taken around the house. As of October 2026 its Starter plan is pay-as-you-go with the first three projects free, and Pro is $999 per year. Aerial roof reports alone do not measure walls, so they are less useful for siding.
Can AI show a homeowner what new siding will look like?
Yes. Hover and several manufacturer visualizers let homeowners see colors and profiles on a model or photo of their own house. These sell jobs, but colors on screens are not exact, so always show a physical sample before ordering.
What software helps with siding insurance claims?
Insurance-heavy contractors often need Xactimate-compatible estimates and detailed photo documentation. Hover can export measurements for claims, and a photo app such as CompanyCam keeps time-stamped damage photos organized by job.
