AI tools for playset, trampoline and hoop installers (2026)

Backyard play installs are kit assembly with a deadline. The swing set arrives in 14 boxes the week before a birthday party, the trampoline freight shows up a day late, and the hoop needs concrete that has to cure before anyone dunks. The money is good if you price by kit, group installs by area and never let a freight delay become a no-show.
This guide replaces our separate trampoline, basketball hoop and batting cage guides. For poured courts, see the sport court guide. All prices were current in October 2026.

Price by kit, not by hour
Customers usually know the brand and model. Build a price list around it:
- Wooden swing sets and playsets: by size tier (the manufacturer's estimated assembly hours are a good guide), plus leveling on slopes, anchors, and mulch or rubber surfacing.
- Trampolines: by size and shape, with an enclosure, plus relocation, mat or spring replacement, and in-ground installs (a dig and retaining wall job, priced separately).
- Basketball hoops: portable assembly vs. in-ground with a concrete footing, and an anchor-kit version for existing slabs. Note backboard size and haul-away of the old unit.
- Batting cages: net-only hangs vs. a full frame, tunnel length (often 35 to 70 feet), turf or a pad, and lighting by an electrician.
Ask for the model link, a wide yard photo with the spot marked, slope, overhead wires and branches, and the gate width. A 14-foot trampoline frame or a long playset beam won't fit through every gate.
Safety zones are part of the quote
The CPSC home playground handbook sets clearances: protective surfacing extending at least 6 feet around equipment, and twice the beam height in front of and behind swings. It also calls for at least 9 inches of loose fill like wood mulch for equipment up to 8 feet high, and notes that a 12-inch initial fill compresses to about 9 inches over time. Quote 12. Add the zone to your intake check and the surfacing to your quote. Customers rarely budget for mulch, and it's a good add-on.
ChatGPT can draft a short, friendly "before we arrive" checklist from these rules. Check every number against the handbook and the manual.
Handle freight delays before they happen
- Book the install only after the customer confirms delivery, or set the date with a free reschedule if freight is late.
- Ask for a photo of all the boxes. Missing boxes are the most common reason a playset can't be finished.
- For in-ground hoops, plan two visits: footing day and mount day after the cure time in the manual.
Scripts that work
- Booking: "Got it, a 12-ft trampoline with enclosure. Text me when the boxes arrive (a photo of all of them is great), and we'll lock in your date."
- Hoop footing: "The footing is poured. Per the manual, it needs __ days before we mount the backboard. I'll be back on the __th."
- Review ask: "Hope the kids loved it! If you have a minute, a quick review with a photo of the finished set really helps other parents."
What you'll pay
- Weekend assembler: Calendly free, Wave free, Smith.ai free tier. $0 a month.
- Full-time solo: Jobber Core ($29/mo annually) plus Quo Starter ($15/mo annually). About $44 a month.
- Crew in spring: Jobber Connect ($99/mo annually) for route optimization and automations, plus NiceJob ($75/mo).
Spring Saturdays are your inventory. If routing gets you from three playset installs to four on a Saturday at $350 each, that's $350 more a week through the season.
Where it breaks down
- Demand is very seasonal (spring, early summer and the holidays). Winter is slow.
- Manufacturer kits sometimes include install vouchers or low-cost installers, which caps your price.
- Injury claims are a real risk. Assemble exactly to the manual, take photos of the finished anchors, and carry liability insurance.

FAQ
How much space does a backyard swing set need?
The CPSC Outdoor Home Playground Safety Handbook calls for protective surfacing at least 6 feet in all directions, and for swings, twice the height of the swing beam in front of and behind the swing. Use the manufacturer's stated safety zone if it is larger, and measure it on the intake photos before quoting.
How deep is an in-ground basketball hoop footing?
It depends on the hoop. Many in-ground systems call for a hole around 4 feet deep, but the manufacturer's manual sets the depth, diameter and concrete volume, and frost depth can push it deeper. Call 811 first, and let the concrete cure for the time the manual specifies before mounting the backboard.
Should I install trampolines given the safety concerns?
Many installers do, with care. The American Academy of Pediatrics discourages home trampoline use, so assemble exactly to the manual, install the enclosure, leave clear space around it, and do not make safety promises. Confirm your liability insurance covers trampoline installs.
