Best AI tools for small wineries (2026)

Updated Oct 17, 2026 · Prices as of Oct 2026 · Some links may be affiliate links (disclosure)

My pick for most small wineries: Commerce7. Under $100,000 in direct-to-consumer sales, its Lite plan is $59 a month with no transaction fee, and it runs the club, web store and tasting room from one customer list. If you would rather pay nothing fixed and accept per-order fees, look at Vinoshipper.

Then use AI where wineries spend the most writing time: tasting notes, club shipment emails, event pages and trade sheets.

Club shipment week

  • Monday 9:00 a.m.: the club manager confirms the fall shipment: two reds and a white for 420 members, with a red-only option for 90 of them.
  • Monday 11:00: AI drafts the shipment email and pairing cards from the winemaker's notes. The winemaker rewrites one sentence about the vintage.
  • Tuesday: a reminder goes out three days before cards are charged. Members can swap wines or pause.
  • Wednesday 6:00 a.m.: cards are processed. Thirty-one declines get an automatic email with an update link.
  • Wednesday afternoon: shipping and compliance checks run by state. Two members in states you do not ship to are moved to pickup.
  • Thursday: the warehouse packs. Pickup members get a text that their wine is ready.
  • Saturday: pickup party in the tasting room, by reservation. Guests who join the club that day are added at the POS.

Commerce7 and Vinoshipper prices were read on their pricing pages Oct 17, 2026. Commerce7's tiers are set by annual DTC revenue. Vinoshipper describes its pricing as all-inclusive with no setup or monthly fee.

Run the math at your revenue

Small winery, $80,000 a year in DTC. Commerce7 Lite is $59 a month, or $708 a year, plus card processing. On Vinoshipper, if most of that is shipped at about $35 a bottle, you pay roughly $1,480 in percentage fees, about $1,700 in per-bottle fees and around $2,300 in processing. That is about $5,500 all in. Commerce7 comes to about $3,000 once you add similar card processing to the $708. Vinoshipper's appeal is no fixed cost and help selling into more states, not a lower bill at this size.

Growing winery, $400,000 in DTC. Commerce7 Basic is $1,788 a year plus 1.5 percent, or $6,000. About $7,800 total, under 2 percent of DTC. Pro would be $4,788 plus $4,000, so $8,800. Basic stays cheaper until you reach $600,000.

Established winery, $2 million in DTC. Commerce7 Pro is $4,788 plus 1 percent, or $20,000. About $24,800 a year, roughly 1.2 percent. At this size, compare a WineDirect quote too.

Writing with AI, in your own voice

Wine writing is full of clichés, and AI has read all of them. The fix is to feed it your facts and your words.

  • Start from the winemaker's own notes, even if they are rough: "cool year, picked early, 30 percent whole cluster, tastes like cranberry and black tea."
  • Ask for a short version for the shelf talker and a longer one for the club email.
  • Cut every aroma nobody at the winery actually tastes.
  • Keep vintage details and blend percentages from your records, never from the AI.

The tasting room is your club funnel

Most club members join in the tasting room, not online. The software matters less here than the habit of asking.

Make sure the POS lets staff sign someone up in under two minutes on a tablet, with the card saved and the first shipment explained. Track sign-ups by staff member and by day. A server who signs up three members on a Saturday is worth knowing about.

Capture every guest's email at checkout, with permission. Those guests are the list for your next release and your holiday offer. AI can help draft a short thank-you email that goes out the next morning with a link to reorder what they tasted.

Set up before your next club shipment

  1. Import all customers into one list: club members, web buyers, tasting room guests and event attendees.
  2. Set up club tiers with shipment rules, swap windows and pause options.
  3. Turn on reminders before card processing and a decline follow-up email.
  4. Add tasting room reservations for weekends and groups.
  5. Confirm which states you can ship to, with permits and reporting covered.
  6. Write a year of club email templates with AI help, then personalize each shipment.

Who should use what

New or small winery under $100,000 DTC: Commerce7 Lite. It is the best value in the category if you stay under the cap.

Winery that wants zero fixed cost or sells mostly at events: Vinoshipper. You pay only when you sell, which helps in a slow first year.

Winery between $100,000 and $600,000: Commerce7 Basic. Budget the 1.5 percent fee as a cost of sales.

Larger DTC operation: Commerce7 Pro, with a WineDirect quote for comparison, especially if you want fulfillment handled too.

Downsides and traps

Percentage fees grow with you. A platform that is cheap at $80,000 can cost as much as a part-time salary at $3 million. Re-run the math every year.

Lite's $100,000 cap is firm. Plan the move to Basic before a strong holiday season pushes you over.

Per-bottle fees hit low-priced wines harder. A 75-cent fee is 5 percent of a $15 bottle.

AI tasting notes can make every wine sound the same. Members buy your story, so keep it specific.

FAQ

What is the best DTC platform for a small winery?

For most small wineries, Commerce7. Its Lite plan is $59 a month with no transaction fee for wineries under $100,000 in annual DTC revenue, and it covers CRM, wine club, ecommerce and tasting room POS. Vinoshipper is the main alternative if you want no monthly fee at all and pay per order instead.

How do Commerce7's transaction fees work?

They are a percentage of DTC sales on top of the monthly fee: none on Lite, 1.5 percent on Basic at $149 a month, 1 percent on Pro at $399, and 0.75 percent on Experience. Basic and Pro cost exactly the same at $600,000 in DTC revenue, which is also where Basic's revenue cap sits.

Can AI write my tasting notes?

It can draft them from your own notes. Give it the varietal, vineyard, vintage conditions, winemaking choices and what you taste, then ask for a short, plain note. Remove any aromas you did not actually find. Guests and critics notice generic notes quickly.

Do I need compliance software to ship wine?

If you ship to consumers in several states, yes, or a partner that handles it. Each state has its own permits, volume limits, tax filings and reports. Some platforms integrate with compliance services; Vinoshipper offers a partner route for selling into more states. Do not guess here; penalties can include losing a shipping permit.

How can AI help my wine club?

Writing and planning. It can draft shipment emails, pairing notes and recipe cards, and help you plan a year of shipments around inventory. It is also good at member reminder messages before a card is charged. Personalize the top line, and send the email from a real person at the winery.

Should the tasting room take reservations?

Most small wineries now do for weekends and groups, and keep walk-ins for weekdays. Reservations smooth staffing and raise average spend because guests come prepared to buy. Your DTC platform may include reservations; Commerce7 lists POS and reservations on every plan.
